Unexpected veggie delights?

I'm interested to know if members have had any unexpectedly fantastic vegetarian food, specifically at non-vegetarian restaurants or cafes.
I recall visiting a fairly standard "English" restaurant in Devon, where the vast majority of the menu was meat or fish. There were only 2 vegetarian options on the menu, vegetarian lasagna and mushroom stroganoff. Fairly standard fare, as I'm sure you'll have found.
I closed my eyes and picked one - the mushroom stroganoff. I fully expected the usual warmed-through, possible even microwaved, "ready" meal. However, I have no idea what the chef did but it was quite possibly one of the best meals out I've ever had. It was rich, creamy, garlicky, with some very unusual mushrooms and I nearly ordered a second helping!!!! Very unexpected indeed.
