coming out of the cupboard!
June 23, 2010 01:27AM
What is up with the closet Vegan and Vegetarian males of Texas. I am a 48 year old Husband and Grandpa and I am coming out of the cupboard!
I flirted with the Vegetarian foods, and eating things such as egg whites, milk, and Cheese. At first I lied to myself and my family. I stated? This change is due to Cholesterol and Middle age weight gain?.
People began to notice that the cheese had been pushed to the side of my plate. Eggs and Fish had been removed from my life. Still when asked I denied it.
I began to frequent roadside farm stands. I was even caught by my boss at an apple orchard. We made eye contact but never spoke of it.
I just couldn?t pretend anymore! I came home with a grinder and a bag of flax seed. I tossed them onto the counter and looked at my family and said?. ?I am a VEGAN!? I have come out of the cupboard!
There was no drum roll, just some rolling of the eyes and a mumbled ?so what?.
Now the problem has been with my male co-workers and even a few of the females. Something about Vegans scare people? What is it? I know there are a few more Male Vegans out there?. And even some women for whatever reason feel veganism just is not human.
What is your story? How can I a Texan a former Hog farmer tell the world I am a Vegan!

Hello Doyle...

I'm not a vegan, but I'm very happy for any person like you to become one. I'm learning how to become one; I know it takes time, specially when I have been used to eat differently all of my life.
I'm 60 years old and in March of this year was diagnosed with type-2 diabetes; since my life-style change so fast, I decided to change for the better...eating healthier.
So congratulations on your new life-style!

Type 2 diabetes responds well to Vegan life style. I work in medical diagnostics and have seen many patients respond really well and many cases reverse the Type 2 diabetes!
Good luck and I am sure you will do very well!
