Why did you choose to eat a meat free diet?
July 06, 2008 05:00AM
I am happy I found this little group. I am glad that there are other spiritualy based vegetarians. I know that in Romans God tells us that it doesn't matter what we eat, but I choose to not eat meat because of violence involved in the slaugher of the animals. And I know that God tells us to care for his animals. I also believe it helps me feel better about calling myself a Christian. Is there a specific reason you choose to not eat meat? Have a blessed Sunday!

There are also several quotes that point to God ordaining vegetarianism.
"And God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit; you shall have them for food."
Genesis 1:29 (RSV)
Also, the fifth commandment of "Thou Shalt not Kill" doesn't specify what not to kill therefore it is open to all species of sentient beings.
Also, there is this example of vegetarianism in the bible:
DANIEL 1:12 (They requested that they be allowed to eat vegetables and water for ten days.) ?Please test you servants for ten days; and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our countenances be examined before you, and the countenances of the young men who eat the portion of the king?s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.?
DANIEL 1:15 "And at the end of ten days their countenances appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king's delicacies."
