Do we have any Raw Vegan Athletes?
October 19, 2009 09:28AM
I am doing just fine on raw food on a daily basis, but now I am preparing for a 300 mile bike trip over a three day period. I want to make sure I eat enough to keep my energy up and my blood sugar balanced. Does anyone have any experience with something like this? I am not sure what or how much to eat.

Hi there!!
I'm involved in many phycical activities like bootcamp classes, jogging and I'm a Raw vegan. I usually take my pre-workout load of lots of nuts and seeds, as well as dried fruits, which will give you the protein and carbs you will need. Sometimes, instead of that I'll make a powerful protein shake with almond milk, a banana, brown rice protein, and chia seeds. I also take liquid aminos (which are the bluilding blocks of protein) before and after my workouts so my muscles won't get into exhaustion smiling smiley and let me tell you this works smiling smiley I feel great..Well hope this helps! grinning smiley

Definitely read The 80-10-10 Diet by Dr. Doug Graham. Also read his Sports Nutrition book - www.foodnsport.com

I am a triathlete. High fruit, low nuts/seeds is the best way to fule as an endurance athlete. It's basically a frugivore diet (NOT fruitarian). Frugivores get the bulk of their calories from fruits and get their minerlas from tender leafy greens. Bananas are your friend.

Recipe for you:

4 bananas
2 stalks celery
1+ cup water (to your desired consistency)

Blend in VitaMix, enjoy! Great pre & post work out smoothie. You can also water this down and use it as a fuel on your bike.

Rawk on,
Astrum
