Did you find something not working right? Please let me know here and hopefully we can fix it quick Nerd

Thanks! webmaster-eric

Non-ASCII characters are not supported anywhere in the site.
For example, an 'a' with an acute accent is displayed as '?' instead on forum posts (question mark instead of the right character).
Restaurant and city names containing accented characters are also listed without those - see for example [www.happycow.net] for an example of those two issues.

Hi Fibonacci,

For some reason this post got overlooked. I think that this issue has already been resolved though. If you can find an example where it still exists, please let me know.
Thanks, Eric

Do you mean the bug in the posts, or in the place names? If it's the second one, the link I gave you still lists "El Champinon" in "Bogota" instead of "El Champi??n" in "Bogot?".

EDIT: there's the accented characters appearing as question marks again. The right name should be "El Champi~n?on" in "Bogot?a", but I guess it won't do any good until the other bug is fixed.

2ND EDIT: OK, it didn't work, I'll stop trying.

Hi Fibonacci,

I see what you mean about the special characters in this group as you've shown above and will work on fixing that.

However, in the venue names we've purposely removed them. They are sometimes used in the address field and in the description, below the listing, as I have just done on the link you sent:
If you see characters not showing correctly, please send me a link.

Thanks for your help!

May I ask why are they removed?

They were cause some bugs and also pages did not always validate as a result. There obviously is a method to handle this better. Will look into it when I have time.
Thanks. Eric

Still I've seen the pages for China include the native name of the restaurant, obviously in non-ASCII characters. Surely this must cause some problems with page validation too?

The Chinese characters should never appear in the venue name (main name, although sometimes we repeat the name in the comment field with characters included) or cities, only in the addresses and comments.
