Becoming Vegan by Brenda Davis is a great book. Also Defeating Diabetes by the same author, Brenda Davis, is also great if you are concerned about a family member or are cooking for a diabetic--some simple great recipes in this book--all vegan--and you don't have to be diabetic to eat them! Vegan Freak is an excellent resource and a great place to start. I have only one bone to pick with that author--they suggest that companion dogs and cats can also eat vegan. Human beings were never meant to eat meat--our bodies are just not designed for it--but carnivores, such as cats, are designed to eat meat and it does not seem like a sound idea to be feeding them a diet that is not natural to them and their digestive systems.
I am now going through cookbooks--and can not recommend any at this point. I want simple and easy recipes, not ones that keep you in the kitchen for hours.
I have partially read This Crazy Vegan Life by Christina Pirello and would also recommend that book. Lots of information and recipes that are simpler.
Vegan Freak - being vegan in a non-vegan world is populer and quite funny. I enjoyed reading that
The Vegan Sourcebook - full of info about the animal-user industries. Its more educational......errm, theres loads of good ones to read. Including animal rights books. And theres a few small easy recipes at the back, they look nice...including sweets and marinades
I read these after I was vegan to be honest, but I guess it doesn't matter, u can still learn from them and they can help u understand easier why u want to become vegan.
Heres some other recommendations I haven't read but heard they're also populer and at least related some way to veganism:
The China Study ? I think......good luck, use search too, theres tons more. I have some in mind but i am trying to remember what they're called.
