Protein Sources

My husband was recently told by an acupuncturist that he needed more protein, particularly animal protein. Come on?!!! I've just bought him more tempeh and some Hemp Protein Powder to get him going? What's so funny is that when you look at us from the "Eat for you Blood Type" he should be the vegetarian and I should be a meat eater.

Any thoughts?

Well first of all, there's no good research that the blood type diet works. As far as the protein thing goes, a lot of medical professionals recommend animal products due to limited knowledge on vegan sources. If the problem is strictly protein, here is a great resource for vegan proteins:

If the problem is any other nutrient that would be found in animal foods, there is a vegan source. I'd recommend a f/u with your doctor to determine any special needs, and if you can see a dietitian for dietary advice as well that would be ideal.

First of all, the USDA has greatly exaggerated the daily protein requirement, mostly because of lobbying by the meat and dairy industry (to try and get you to eat more meat and dairy). It's been going on for decades. Where do you think that food pyramid comes from? The meat and dairy industry is totally subsidized by the gov't due to lobbying, etc. Second of all you get all the protein you need from vegetables (where do you think the cows get their protein). You could just eat potatoes and get enough protein. so don't worry about it!

When I was in University my vegan gilfriend at the time started feeling lethargic and scattered. Her MD wanted to put her on some pills. F that, she said, and we headed to an acupuncturist/nutritionist. He took her pulse and told her she was in dire need of a filet mignon. F that, she said, and we went to an OMD. He looked at her tongue, looked into her eyesockets, felt her pulse, and told her she needed the fish swimming in her veins. F all these F'ers, she said. And she headed to the local herbal shop where an awesome veg hindu woman listened to her, and directed her to Flax seed oil, nutritional yeast, and iron. Three weeks later she was feeling markedly better. Within a couple of months she was back to her normal, vibrant, still vegan self.
