I've been delving about at libraries in Britain for several years now in an attempt to trace the development of veggie-Christian activity over the past couple of centuries.
It seemed like a concise type of task when I began back in 2004 with a view to producing a short website article or perhaps a booklet. Since then, several archive projects have unfolded on-line and I've recently published a book which explores the subject in considerable depth: 'Familiar Strangers: The Church and the Vegetarian Movement in Britain (1809-2009)'.
It's all featured on my main blog & related links, if anyone wishes to check-out some of the precursors to contemporary campaigns and societies: www.christianvegetarianarchive.blogspot.com
All best wishes,
John Gilheany
