Many Christians seem to feel they are entitled to eat meat. That it is a "gift" from God. I like to look at the entire picture. God also asked us to be good stewards of the Earth and its people. I don't believe I can remain an omnivore and uphold those requests. I like to believe that in some small way my children and I are making a difference to future generations. We are not wasteful. We eat conservatively. Most importantly we are not contributing to this industry that creates human suffering, not to mention the defenseless animals. ~God Bless~

I totally agree, that's what I've been thinking in my head for a long time, but never knew how to put words to it!!

One of the commandments is not to kill. It doesn't say not to kill people It says Thou shalt not kill." Then God said, "Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you" (Genesis 1":29) It dosen't say animals are for food.

But you see.. after Jesus 'left the scene' some others sort of ran things, and they said something like 'because Jesus died for our sins, we are all sin-free, and even if/when ever we sin, we can just go into the 'confession booth' , confess our sins, do the reccomended penance, and then, we're good to go, all over again! This is the Christianity according to Saul-Paul(Psaul), who was working together with St.Barnabas. But, the 'letters' record shows that Saul-Paul had a tiff with St.Barnabas, and they split ways.

So, there is the Gospel according to Saul-Paul, and the gospel according to St. Barnabas - who was known to have been Jesus's Official Scribe, who's version is proscribed by the churches for some reason. St.Barnabas was a disciple and Saul-Paul was not.

Has anyone here read the book "Serve God, Save the Planet"? It's a really great book that discusses how we are first called to Serve God and by serving Him we are mandated to take care of the Earth he gave us. I think this concept relates to Veganism, Environmentalism, Christianity, etc. very well.

God gave man dominion over the animals, but that does not equal dominance. How we treat the animals, environment, resources, etc is reflective of our obedience to God and His word.

Michelle, is that you from Church Secretary today? I hope so I've missed you. I remember you told me about that book, Serve God, Save the Planet, but I haven't gotten a copy yet. I will try to soon. Can you find it at Amazon?

I agree with you all. Animals and people are suffering so much; we shouldn't give into the System of using animal products. As we bring our beliefs and the truth to the forefront (gently of course) then perhaps the suffering will stop.

Oh...I forgot to introduce myself (sorry) -- I got all excited. I am Carmel and I live in Pasadena, Texas which is a little town outside Houston. Pasadena isn't vegan friendly at all, but parts of Houston are -- the enlightened parts I've been a vegetarian/vegan off and on for many years, but I've just now gotten really serious about it. I am married, but we don't have any children -- just an ornery cat named "Pea". She is spoiled. My husband eats meat and dairy but I'm trying to get him interested in vegan foods. So I'm trying all kinds of recipes. If any of you have any good, simple (because I'm not a very good cook) recipes you would like to share, I would be happy to hear them.

I'm so glad I joined this group and look forward to a lot of interesting conversations and support.

Although I initially became a vegetarian for selfish reasons(weight loss, health), I've become increasingly aware of how important vegetarianism is for everyday Christian living. It's the Christian response to world hunger , and it shows a respect for all sentient beings. Non-believers who are vegetarian often mock the heavy meat consumption of Christians. I'm a Southern Baptist, and our denomination's consumption of fried chicken is often the subject of a lot of jokes.
Let's be consistent in our actions....let's respect the rights of the unborn humans, animals, the environment, and the world's poor. If we truly take the moral higher ground of vegetarianism, non-believers will have no excuse to mock us, and they will want what we have.

in The Quran GOD says we may eat meat but not blood(My observation only, My interpretation only). But i think even Soy meat must have some blood of those Microbes that construct it..

recently my pastor posted on fb implying that vegetables suffer when we pull them pick them and cook them. I was shocked at this stupidity and wonder why they have to justify eating meat if they insist it is not wrong. I pray often and am convinced that killing is not a Christlike activity. The front page of my newspaper last week ran a photo of a youth outing (male bonding) killing pigs and cooking them so they could experience how people live in other parts of the world. In the Lord's prayer we say thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Since there is no death in heaven I am assuming that the church in this world does not want heaven on earth.
