My name is Lyra, and I'm on the Sunshine Coast. I just moved here from Santa Monica, California, after wanting to come to Canada for many years. I'm a gluten-free vegan foodie, and I have a recipe/review blog called The Gluten-Free Hippie. My fiance and I are looking for land around this area to start a sustainable farm/retreat center.

I am from the Okanagan area in BC! whats up fellow British columbians?

Welcome! A bunch of my friends from Powell River are currently in the Okanagan harvesting fruit.

As for me, I've been massively busy this summer with traveling to Oregon, and just moved about 30 minutes north of where I was living before. It's such a nice place up here - I don't think I could ever live outside of the forest again.

Hello BC friends!

I posted most of this as a separate topic but wanted to post it here to. I love visiting BC so I'd love to get your advise on things to see and do, where to get the best vegan eats inexpensively and best of all: to meet some of you cool veg folks! smiling smiley

About me: I live in Portland, Oregon. I've had a vegan diet for 15+ years now. I'm a Daddy to 3 wonderful young vegans - if you ever visit me down here you will likely meet them!

Stuff I'm fond of: helping others and helping others help themselves - learning and sharing what I've learned - wild lands: forests, hills, mountains - hot springs - islands - books, bookstores and libraries - trains, trams and ferries - riding bicycles - diy/free living and travel - camping, hiking and generally just being in nature - wild edible plants - emergency and natural medicine - meeting people - developing deep and lasting friendships - sharing tasty and nutritious vegan food - social justice - personal freedom - ecological sustainability and simple living - recreational and competitive shooting - defense training of many types - learning other languages besides english - flea markets, yard sales, swap meets, trade circles and so much more...

Funny that you're from Portland, I grew up in Camas! I'm actually looking to move back to Eugene, OR in the next couple months - got offered a job! Who'd have thought someone would move TO Oregon for work?

Thanks for the welcome! I'd definitely like to hear more about the Sunshine Coast - everything I've heard and read so far has been very positive. Roberts Creek in particular seems to have a great reputation. I'm debating taking a little trip down to Eugene next month and have enjoyed living there in the past.

Anyway, please let me know when you are down this way, I'd enjoy meeting you!
