Hi. I'm Shannon and new to Happy Cow. I feel like I'm on my own in the area that I live which is the south. I want to make people aware of factory farming and the abuse these animals go through. People just don't seem to care. I've actually been cursed out for taking animal life so seriously. Is there a way to find out if there are local activist in or near the area you live in. Would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Yeah, it's amazing the cruelty and ignorance the human race is capable of. I think most people would rather bury their head in the sand like an ostrich than think about and take action to stop factory farming and similar abuses. Anyway, you're not alone in experiencing that and you've come to the right place.
I have met more activists in person (as opposed to on-line) through Peta than through anywhere else. My advice is to sign up for their action team. They will contact you when there are events in your area. Then go to those events. Everyone there will be someone near your area, meet them then meet their friends and you're set!
Hope this helps!
All the best,
p.s. for anyone in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas or Columbus, Ohio, you should also join Mercy for Animals since they have extensive volunteer networks in the cities:[www.mercyforanimals.org]
