weight loss and insomnia questions

I have been a vegan since dec 9th 2009.

i do ironman triathlons and train on average 3 hours a day, but even with my training and vegan diet.....

although i am not fat, i still have 5-10 kilo of fat around my waste, which doesnt seem to go away ... even on a strict vegan diet. i could get thinnner before when i was eating whatever i wanted.

i do not eat any processed food. i do not eat any processes sugar or candy. i eat a lot of vegetaables and fruit.

any suggestions on why i dont seem to lose this 5-10 kilo?

also -- do other vegans experience problems with sleep?

i had the same problem when i trained for marathons. i would hit this plateau and couldn't go any further. my teachers noticed and advised that i start to incorporate meditation or yoga into my routine. i didn't think it was going to work but it did and the fascinating part was that most of it was emotional baggage.

it also helped with calming my mind, reduced 'runners' stress, and insomnia. Not saying it's a 'cure all' thing but it would hurt to try.

tho it is not the only type of meditations vipassana is one of my favorites and the art of Kundalini yoga. i practice both daily.

Oh wow! John Galt I thought I was the only one! I am having the same problem too! I am going to add more to my work out besides jogging and walking a few miles with a 20lb vest on. As far as the insomnia dude good luck! It is 2:20am and I am replying to your post. What does that tell you? Hey if I discover something trust me I'll let you know. smiling smiley

HI -
The first thing I want to make note of is not to be discouraged as you have been vegan only since Dec - Your body is going to go through a "re-adjustment" period in digesting and processing non animal based foods. Perhaps the ratio of protein to fruit / veg sugars you are ingesting isn't balanced enough?
Not certain - just a couple thoughts.
I have always had sleep problems so I'm afraid I can't help there.
