Hello,
I will be in Kyoto in early June.
I don't speak any Japanese and was wondering if
if someone could give me tips on how to order
vegan food at non vegan restaurants or even
at vegetarian restaurants for that matter.
Is there a phrase I could use?
I did see the list of veg restaurants on HC
and am excited to try them!
Thanks,
SG

Hello,
have you heard about the 'Vegan Passport'?

I guess that might help.
Best regards,
Andy

I managed pretty good using "saishoku-shugi-sha" -if you can get the pronunciation down. It translates "vegetarian person". For vegan, use: "kanzen-saishoku-shugi-sha".
Best if you just visit places which are totally veg since fish oil/sauce seems to be used in everything:
Please let us know if you find anything not listed!
