This just started airing on HBO and I've already heard for dozens of people who've watched it! Its a profile of Ingrid Newkirk PETA's cofounder and president. Its a must watch! There's a gruesome clip about a Butterball turkey plant investigation that hopefully will reduce the # of murderers next Thanksgiving.

I love when these types of programs are made and aired for the general public to see. I don't have HBO but hopefully I can still get around to seeing this documentary (maybe it will come out on DVD?!). There was a great program on I believe CNN on Thanksgiving that discussed how toxic the American diet is with all the processed foods (high fructose corn syrup, etc) and what it's doing to health, lifespan, etc. While it didn't specifically promote vegetarianism, I think it was a great program to hopefully open people's eyes to how bad the "American diet" really is and what it's doing to us and especially how greatly it is affecting children.

I think the public's awareness of the toxicity and health implications of the 'American diet' is sort of like the public's awareness of the toxicity and health implications of smoking in the pre anti-smoking days: people know it's not good for them because of the negative ways it affect their bodies when they're overweight and sick all the time, but as long as everyone else is doing it, there are ads everywhere for it, and there's an absence of sources making them feel guilty about it, they'll keep doing it.
