Chamonix is a world mecca for climbing, skiing, and hiking so if you love the outdoors, plan to spend some quality time here. In the summer, climbers from all over the world come to climb the area's peaks and rock towers which overlook the city. Be careful though, its very easy to get in over your head if you don't know what you are doing.
Vegetarian options are available if you know where to look. Vegan can be tough, unless you are self-catering.
The best veggie meals in town are: The Bric de Legume Indienne at the Bistro Des Sports, the Veggie Wrap or Veggie Chamwich at Mojo's Sandwich Cafe, the veggie options at Annapurna)Indian restaurant), and the meatless options at Gambero's (Italian) restaurant.
If you are self-catering, you can find plenty of quinoa, fresh veggies, and other items at the big Casino grocery store (underneath the Alpina Hotel) or at the Super-U.
If you are skiing, you can find decent veggie options for lunch at La Balme (easy area at the end of the valley) and at the lower restaurant on the Grand Montet - but not at the big Lognan station.
