Overall, Split can be vegetarian friendly. However, the vast majority of the vegetarian selection at restaurants is pizza and pasta type dishes, which can get rather boring after awhile. There are a few gems like Makro Vega restaurant, Tonik Juice Bar, and the two Kalumela health food stores, which will keep a vegetarian happy. There is also a fantastic open-air market that sells mainly locally produced fruit and vegetables and is very inexpensive. The market is located just outside Srebrena Vrata (Silver Gate) of the palace walls and is open Monday to Saturday, 7am to 1pm, Sundays 7am to 11am. Most of the small grocery stores in the downtown sell soymilk, but only Kalumela sells tofu and other soy products. The larger grocery stores out of town sell soy products as well, and for less money.
