Old or new – if it promotes compassion we want to share it!

Vegan Waiter

Menus are true obituaries. Behind that innocent list of dishes and prices, there are stories of overcoming, dramas and sacrifices that will probably never be told. It is then up to the waiter, the difficult task of keeping these alive, warm and in portions for two or three memories, depending on hunger.

This channel is the “Back Door”. Launching videos every Monday and Thursday at 11am.

Among many achievements, and in less than a year of existence, BACK DOOR became the Brazilian channel on the internet to reach the milestone of 1 million subscribers the fastest and won the prize of the APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics ) for “Best Program To Humor TV”.

BACK DOOR – showing what regular living room entertainment TV does not.

As Porta dos Fundos stirs controversy, it is also making money along the way. Working closely with YouTube, the venture leapt in its first year of existence to the No. 5 spot among the site’s comedy channels worldwide, and it is the most popular channel of any kind in Brazil with more than five million subscribers.

Neither Porta dos Fundos nor YouTube would reveal how much advertising revenue the channel generates, but the troupe said its operation was turning a profit, growing since 2012 from 10 employees to 34, and branching out into producing commercials for Brazilian and multinational companies.

“They didn’t want gatekeepers, so their work is a great fit for us,” said Federico Goldenberg, the partner operations manager in YouTube’s São Paulo office. “Everything Porta dos Fundos does is detail-oriented and focused on quality, from scripts to lighting.”

Some of the troupe’s most biting work focuses on everyday frustrations, like ordering at a restaurant or hailing a taxi, that make life in Brazil — and especially in the defiantly relaxed Rio de Janeiro, where the actors are based — a little maddening for anyone lacking a sense of humor.

Head Waiter: (Michael Palin) Fine. I’m the head waiter. This is a vegetarian restaurant only, we serve no animal flesh of any kind. We’re not only proud of that, we’re smug about it. So if you were to come in here asking me to rip open a small defenseless chicken, so you could chew its skin and eat its intestines, then I’m afraid I’d have to ask you to leave.
