The Food stuff stores are out there all over the country. The shops are closed from 1PM to 4 PM for a Noon break and it is official. The hypermarkets are exempt and work from 9 AM to Midnight. Restaurants typically open at 10.30 -11 AM and take a break at 3.00 Pm to re-open at 6 or 7 PM. Weekly holidays are not the norm for restaurants and eateries. A word of caution : While Eating PACKED CHIPS WAFERS make sure to read out the flavors / ingredients many of them contain CHICKEN / PRAWN fat and flavors.

Travel in Oman is leisure with less congested roads on the highways on weekdays. Eating out needs a bit of scouting and questioning. You may be shrugged upon. The region is largely non - vegetarian and hence getting vegetarian choices could be testing. Any food which traditionally is vegetarian may be flavoured or prepared with local flavour and for local taste. French Fries are omnipresent and can be had without a second thought. Veggie burgers are available only at Mc Donald's at SAFEER Mall in Sohar. Pizza Hut serves Vegetarian (Garden Fresh or Paneer) Pizzas. Spicy village and Woodland restaurants spread out in Oman and do offer Vegan option. Fresh Salad bar is available in all LULU hypermarkets besides Pizza Hut. The usual dressings for sandwich contains MAYONNAISE which you may like to avoid. PARANTHAS ( Fried Pan cake - Indian style)freshly prepared or Frozen are available in hypermarkets as is Frozen bread from the U.K. Fruits are plenty and at all hypermarkets.
