Outside of the main cities of Lhasa and Shigatse, where Indian and Western tourist vegetarian food is widely available, vegetarians may find things frustrating. Although any tourist area will be able to put something together, small and local restaurants may only be able to offer tsangpa and the odd vegetable. This should only be a problem for those planning hikes of longer than a few days, where healthy food is crucial. Tibetans consume a lot of meat, so prepare in advance if possible.
