This cavernous atmospheric Morrocan bistro/cafe attracts both locals and travelers and is located in an alleyway near the ramparts of Essaouira. The menu is largely un-Moroccan and served by the young and modern English-speaking staff. Miso or bissara (fava bean) soups, fresh and crunchy salads, omelets, and specialties such as vegetarian lasagna are joined by delights such as buckwheat pancakes. For something sweet, try the daily fruit tart, perhaps accompanied by a freshly squeezed juice or one of a large selection of herbal and chai teas. It's Wi-fi connected, and on selected nights they set up the DVD player and screens various environmental, wildlife, and cultural movies. Cash only. Open Mon-Sun 12-4pm, Mon-Sun 6-10:30pm, longer hours June-Sept.

Serves simple traditional Moroccan food using fresh local ingredients. The three course menu is 80 Dihrams (about 7 euros). Typical vegan dishes include a Moroccan salad of tomato, onion, fresh herbs and green pepper; spiced lentils served on a Moroccan crepe, a tagine of local seasonal stuffed vegetables (including parsnip, pepper, aubergine, tomato and potato) and many more. Also offers traditional in-house-made desserts such as baked apples stuffed with dried fruit and nuts. Wine may be available.
